Biscayne Impact Resistant Windows and Doors combine heavy-duty aluminum frames with impact-resistant laminated glass. This glass may crack on impact, but the inter-layer keeps the glass intact, preventing destructive wind from entering your home.
Why Impact Resistant Windows?
Hurricane Research has proven that flying debris, not just high winds is the main cause of window failure resulting in the massive destruction of homes. Once flying objects pierce windows and doors, hurricane-force winds enter the home. Internal pressure causes the roof to blow off, resulting in massive wind and water damage. As a result, new laws were enacted to regulate and test windows & doors marketed as Impact Resistant. These products must be able to withstand initial flying debris impacts and then hold up against hurricane force wind gusts. Once these products pass the stringent tests, they can be classified as impact resistant approved.
Biscayne Windows Are Designed To Be The Best Impact Window System
.062 Heavy-Duty Extruded Aluminum Frames are Standard with Biscayne Impact Windows. (Unlike some competitor products that try to cut costs by using a thinner .050 extrusion that sacrifices strength)
Superior Strength
Extruded U-Channel Securely Houses Laminated Glass Ensuring Unit Stays Intact! (WOOD & VINYL PRODUCTS CANNOT COME CLOSE TO MATCHING THIS STRENGTH)
Biscayne Impact Resistant Windows and Doors combine Heavy-Duty Aluminum Frames with impact-resistant laminated glass. A special silicone glazing process keeps the glass from breaking away from the frame. Although the glass may crack on impact, the interlayer keeps the glass intact, preventing destructive wind from entering your home. Biscayne Impact-Resistant Windows and Doors with aluminum frames pass stringent Large and Small Missile Impact Tests. In the Large Missile Impact Test, a window is subjected to two impacts by a nine-pound 2 x 4 beam traveling at a speed of 50 feet per second. Then this “impacted” window is subjected to hurricane-force winds. The polyvinyl butyral interlayer keeps the window intact and sealed against wind even if glass is cracked by a flying object. All Biscayne Windows and Doors with aluminum frames have Miami-Dade Notice of Acceptance, qualifying them for use in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties (the most stringent testing counties).
